SFOTT | YOSEMITE beta release

EDIT 20141118 :
Update runs fine from AppStore with 10.10.1 seeded today.

I am very very very late at coding Sfott, I have focused on Yosemite Server for my job lately.
I’ll do my best to go further and at least propose to avoid the boot.efi install for hardware that don’t need it.

Quick Use of this beta release for Yosemite Tests :

This release is ßeta ! :

Until officially released, and tested… to show Yosemite choice in the Settings Menu
so you can choose the System Os target, and its Installer…

you’ll have to go to 7) Extra Menu

Screen Shot 2014-10-13 at 1.17.11 AM

Then in extra Menu you’ll see the Yosemite Option 9).
So far I’ve only tested with the GM, but you can choose the Public Beta ( I’ve not tested Yet at the time of writing )

Screen Shot 2014-10-13 at 1.17.18 AM Screen Shot 2014-10-13 at 1.17.41 AM

Now, you’ll be able to choose your Yosemite version in the Settings Menu, 3) Select Os X System Version and 4) Select Os X Installer

Screen Shot 2014-10-13 at 1.25.35 AM

Of course you still need to choose a USB stick to use.

Then go back to Main Menu and choose 4) Create / Patch SFOTT Key and go for it.

IMPORTANT :

For Yosemite and until I finish the script, only 2) Create a New key in Autorun will create the USB Key.

Step by Step won’t work for Yosemite. It only works for Mavericks for now. I have to work on the Code and it’s not even I leave this Step by Step Option anyway.

So if you need to create a Key without patching the boot EFI, you’ll have to wait that I include an option for that. I’m working on it by the way.

Note :
I only Tested it with GM of Sfott.
I’m going to test with Public Betas, if  I have Time.
Once Yosemite is available in the French AppStore, I’ll download it and test the script as is again.
Then I’ll release a New Sfott script with Yosemite included by default…
Stay tune.

EDIT : Downloading Yosemite Rigth now. Testing it ASAP.

Recovery HD :

Recovery is Created during install but not working.
Pike’s working on it, and we’re all testing out the boot.efi.

Until done, well Recovery won’t work, so beware with Filevault

- ONLY CONSIDER YOSEMITE FOR TESTING if you want/need FILEVAULT ( iMessage too I think )

I do test on a MacMini2,1 as I don’t have a MacPro1,1 at Hand anymore.
I’d say that unless you have graphics, forget about Yosemite on a MacMini2,1 or Macbook etc….
It does not worth it from my Point of view, and it is quite buggy – login step for instance. Video can’t handle.
MacPro1,1 MacPro2,1 – Xserve  (and some 64bits not Officially supported) may be the only Computerswith interest as we can change the Graphic Cards.

You are warned. No one on Macrumors, Tiamo Pikeralpha nor I could be responsible for any data loss. You are warned.
Only try on a dedicated hard drive. remove any drive that you care for. Don’t play with unless you are sure you can loose the content.
You are warned.

Now, Enjoy testing.

I’ll let the download here until Yosemite is fully coded in the “Offical” release on the Download Page.

Thanks for your work! I’m using it for a macmini2,1 but the video and audio did not work (properly).

I found out that the video drivers of the GMA950 here:http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/280675-partial-fix-intel-gma950-for-os-x-108/
I found a working audio driver AppleHDA in the combo update 10.6.8

Only the sleep/wake is not working properly. I will go to sleep, but the screen won’t wake up any more. Does any body knows which kexts are involved with this?

    Thanx!

Thank you for an amazing project. Got my old Mac Pro 1.1 running Yosemite with a new Asus GTX 970. All good until I zapped the PRAM. Now it only boots half way.

I can get back into action booting from the dongle but I have to remove the GTX 970 and reinstall the GT7300. Not a workable solution for regular use. Any ideas.

Thanks again for doing what Apple decided not to do for us!

    • jazzboy says:

I think zapping the pram erased the video card driver selection and since no default driver for the 970 is in Yosemite (yet) it could not boot and having two cards did not work either.

All good again after a boot with the GT7300 only and a repair. :-)

  8. Grar says:

Thank you so much for allowing me to run Mavericks, then Yosemite on my 2006 Mac Pro .
making the Yosemite key took many many unsuccessful tries before I finally cracked it (filling in ALL sections/turning off LS) and its running fantastic However very slow boot up and shut down (2 mins)
and I already have the 2.1 firmware. Any ideas?
    Regards

  9. Boff says:

    Thanks guys

Upgraded a Mac pro 1 1 to 10.10 with no problems, HD 5770, 10gb RAM, 2x3Ghz Dual core.

Last night went to 10.10.1 via apple and worked perfectly.

Where can I find the 1 1 to 2 1 firmware update tool? And is it safe to run that from 10.10.x I fancy a quicker boot time!!!

    Thanks all

    Hi,

I used your “beta” version of Sfott for Yosemite” and successfully installed a retail version of Yosemite.
All I did was to rename ‘Install OS X Yosemite.app’ to ‘Install OS X Yosemite Beta.app’.
I haven’t had any problem so far.

    Regards,

  12. Pedro F. says:

    Hi Oem

Just did it… I was finally able to install 10.10.1 but the only way to make the installer to work without been stuck on the apple was doing the Key with the original 10.10 installer on the apps folder….

    Looking great,

  13. TitaniumJones says:

I have successfully installed and am running Yosemite 10.10 on an xServe 1,1 2006.

The ‘Built-In’ graphic card is not actually ‘Built-in’ but on a separate daughter board that is on an special plug on the mother board.

I purchased a new PNY GT 120 from Hong Kong, plugged it into one of the two PCIe ports on the xServe and followed the instructions.

    http://r.ebay.com/p9SeAK

Now I’m gonna see if I can upgrade the two processors!!
